BrmmBrmm Motoring Guide to the UK
It’s a new guide – the BrmmBrmm Motoring Guide to the UK. It is a UK wide guide to the interesting towns and villages of the UK, for an individual or club planning a road trip or motor tour that includes interesting sights, activities and places to visit, and also links to the BrmmBrmm Classic Car Network of clubs, to provide information on classic car and motoring events in the area. It is still in the early stages and there is a lot more information to include, but we are beavering away, so why not take a look, and let us know if you have any suggestions for entries as it would be great to include recommendations from our readers and members. Here’s a link to our Bristol page so you can see how it works. Be sure to check it out regularly too as we are updating it all the time.


Drive It Day
Drive It Day this year is on Sunday 21st April. If you haven’t heard of it before it is held on the closest Sunday to the 23rd April to commemorate the 64 cars that left London on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial on 23rd April 1900. The Royal Automobile Club Thousand Mile Trial set off from London and travelled through Bristol, Birmingham, and Manchester, before touring through Scotland, travelling back through more English locations until they reached London again. The original tour lasted until May 12th and only forty six out of the sixty-four starting cars made it to the finish line. There are numerous events being held across the country to celebrate Drive It Day, some of which are listed below, so why not get out there and Drive It!

Sunday 10th March – Brooklands Morris & Austin Day – Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey. All types of Morris & Austin vehicles on display in and around the Paddock, with Test Hill in action and aero-engine runs.

Friday 22nd March – 24th March - Regis Rally to the Cotswolds' Puckrup Hall Hotel nr Tewksbury near Barnstable. The event is a non-competitive weekend classic tour for up to 65 cars.

Saturday 23rd – 24th March – Spring Transport Festival - Museum of Transport, Cheetham Hill, Manchester. Transport collectors' fair with a wide range of transport and local interest books, DVDs, photos and models on sale.

Friday 29th March - South Devon Railway Easter Transport Extravaganza, South Devon Railway Buckfastleigh. Easter Heritage Gala. Steam and diesel trains all day, intensive service, goods trains, auto trains, fairground rides, classic vehicles and fun for all.

Sunday 31st March - Old Warden Aerodrome Rally, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Classic Rally & Autojumble – an enthusiasts' paradise, lots of jumble and trade stalls, commemorative classic style tax disc sticker for all pre-booked exhibiting vehicles.

Bank Holiday Monday 1st April - Coleford Carnival of Transport Gloucester. This unique Carnival takes place on the streets of Coleford in the heart of the beautiful Royal Forest of Dean. The Town Centre is closed off so vehicles of all types (cars, motorcycles etc.) and all periods can be displayed side by side and the town car parks are made available for Club Displays.

Bank Holiday Monday 1st April – St Catherines Fair, Shalford park Guildford, Surrey. Regular Easter Monday car Boot, Farmers market, dog show, tug of war and classic cars typically ranging from 1900 to 1970's.

Saturday 6th April - Passion for Power Indoor Show, EVENTCITY, Manchester. Classic and Performance Car Club Stands, alongside private entries inc Classic & Vintage motorcars, Competition and Rally Cars. Sunday 7th April - Scotland Argyll Classic, starting point tbc. An ideal event for getting the Classic out from its winter sleep and enjoying a tour round the Scottish countryside. Saturday 13th April - Pride of Longbridge rally, Cofton Park nr Longbridge, Birmingham. Come and see where your favourite MG was made, the event usually attracts many of the ex Longbridge workers so you may be able to meet the people who actually made it as well.

Sunday 14th April - Southern Classics Spring Show, Chichester College, Chichester. Class, Club and Concours awards, no prior booking required. Autojumble and all types of car are welcome from model T to Rolls Royce and everything in between.

Friday 19th April - Flying Scotsman - Endurance Rally, Brooklands to Edinburgh. The entry-list is invitation only. Three long days of essentially daylight driving, down remote country roads, with frequent timed sections, tests on private land and checkpoints, all manned by experienced local motor-club marshals.
