Drive it Day 2014
Drive it Day is the brain child of the Federation for British Historic Vehicle Clubs where they encourage all historic vehicle enthusiasts to take to the road for a day. It is held in commemoration of the 64 cars that left London on a 1000 mile trial in April 1900, setting off from London, travelling through Bristol, Birmingham, and Manchester, before touring through Scotland and back to London again. This year it is to be held on Sunday 27th April 2014 and many clubs are arranging a specific route or event. Organisers from the FBHVC will be at Brooklands, Cotswold Motoring Museum, Bressingham Steam and Garden Centre and the Lakeland Motor Museum this year, any of which would be a good start, way-point or end-point location.
The Sunday Times last year estimated that there were 250, 000 historic vehicles on the road and it would be great to beat that this year. If you would like further details please contact your club or the FBHVC directly at http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/heritage-culture-and-museums/drive-it-day/
If you asked a group of people to name the first Classic car that comes into their head, a lot are likely to say the Jaguar E-Type. It is easy to see why this car became an icon of the sixties, with its combination of good looks, performance and competitive pricing. It was similar to the D-Type of the 1950s in structure and stylish curves but had steel alloys in place of the aluminium and magnesium. It had independent suspension at the front and the rear, fixed length driveshafts and twin coil spring/damper units. A 3.8 litre engine was claimed to reach a top speed of 150mph (241km/h) although the production cars did generally fall very slightly short of this. The model quickly became popular in sports car racing and on the open road and is one of the most sought after classics today. If you have an E-Type – why not send us a picture for our club gallery
