BB News March - April 2012

BB News is the bulletin board of the BrmmBrmm Classic Network. If your club would like to use this space to raise awareness of a club event or item of interest, please email

Welcome to the March / April edition of BrmmBrmm News. With the signs of Spring everywhere we look and the evenings starting to draw out it is exciting to think of all the events that are approaching and will soon be upon us.

Is your club having an outing or a rally this year? Why not tell me about it so I can feature it in our forthcoming events section giving it some publicity, and, if you then send me some photos I can add a piece to the news for you to let everyone know what you’ve been up to? .

Lakeland Motor Museum Cumbria
How many of you had one of these? It is a 1964 Peel 50. It is one of about 50 built between October 1963 and December 1964 by the Peel Engineering Company of the Isle of Man. It is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as being the world’s smallest, street legal motor car that has ever been produced and cost less than 200 when new. It was designed to carry 1 person and 1 bag, be it a shopping bag or a briefcase and has 1 door, 1 headlight, a fibre glass body and a 49cc DKW moped engine with a maximum speed of only 40mph. There are believed to be only 27 of the original models still in existence and this one can be seen at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Cumbria. Peel Engineering Ltd is currently producing a limited number of these cars once more along with the sister model the 2 seater Trident. There is a waiting list for both so if you want to get your hands on one – get your name down quick!

BrmmBrmm Club Trophy 2012
Now I would like to introduce you to the new BrmmBrmm Club Trophy.

The trophy is open to all clubs who are members of the BrmmBrmm Classic Network, and to have a chance of winning this prestigious award, all you need to do is play the BrmmBrmm version of “I-spy” – it’s that simple! With each edition of the newsletter between now and the end of 2012, I will select 3 classic cars and all you need to do is to spot them and take a picture that includes the car and a member of your club and then send it to me at Please include the name of the club member and where it was taken, and I will add it to your club gallery and consider it for Photo of The Week. For each picture sent in, 1 point will be awarded, although I do need to restrict it to 1 photo per car per club I’m afraid.
There are 5 issues of BB News between now and the end of 2012, so that makes a maximum total of 15 points for the year. I will keep a tally of the points awarded to each club and will select a photo to include on each edition of BB News. The deadline for submissions is November 30th, at which point I will send the aforementioned and highly sought after BrmmBrmm Club Trophy along with a certificate to the club with the most points in time for Christmas, and will also include a special feature of the club in the New Year issue of BB News. If more than one club reaches 15 points we will draw the winner from a hat.

The cars to spot over the next 2 months are:
  1. Triumph TR3/TR3A/TR3B
  2. Ford Model T
  3. Austin Allegro

Happy Spotting!
