Next Club Meeting is on 5th June. At the Moorland Garden Hotel. **************************************************************************************** Secretary’s Report May 2013 Hi All I’m pleased to report that despite the lack of spring weather the Club members have managed to get out and about. The Sunday lunch in the Ward Room saw a good turnout, not just the cars, the members were all spruced up as well. Alan insisted on having the roof down, how’s a girl supposed to look her best when windswept and frozen? As you will see from the write up it was a wonderful day in a setting which a lot of us would never have had the opportunity to see. A big thank you to Tony for orchestrating this, a lot of organisation took place behind the scenes to enable this event to go ahead. Sixteen cars took to the road on National Drive it Day, for the Treasure Hunt arranged by Adrian and Val. True to form heated discussions could be heard coming from the blue roadster, some may not have known that a slight detour was taken to get much needed petrol. The navigator had looked ahead and realised the clues could be picked up on the way back, so all was not lost! Back on route and finished in plenty of time to debate over the tie breaker questions before sitting down to enjoy the well-earned cream tea. Our thanks have to go to Adrian and Val for an excellent run and well planned treasure hunt, a very hard act to follow. The full write up will be in next month’s newsletter. The season is now in full swing with the start of the Supper Runs, Camping Weekend, BBQ and lots more. If anyone is interested in going to Powerham Castle on Sunday 14th July, I will need names by 10th May, one vehicle, driver and one passenger £5 so good value. This brings me to the forth coming nuptials; Adrian and Val tie the knot in a few days’ time. I’m sure you will all join me in wishing them a wonderful day and a long and happy life together. Best Wishes to all Alison ************************************************************************************** Secretary’s Report April 2013 Hi All As most of you will already know I have taken on the role as Tamar Valley MGOC’s Secretary. I think there was only one objector and that was Alan, who was reluctant to give up some of his computer time and to clear a space for me in the study. There was a good turnout for the AGM held on the 6th March. John as retiring Chairman gave a rounded report of the year’s events. It seems that despite of the poor summer weather the club members managed to attend a variety of events events. There have been a few changes to the Committee and the most important for me is Keith having taken on the new post of Media Editor. If you have any write-ups or items for the newsletter please email them to Keith. Adrian has also joined the Committee and taken on the role of Treasurer; so please pay any outstanding subscriptions to Adrian. All the new Committee contact details are published further on in this edition of the newsletter. Tony’s first call of duty as Chairman was to thank the outgoing committee members, firstly Bridget for her sterling work as Treasurer over the last three years. Secondly to thank John as outgoing Chairman for all his efforts over a difficult year especially with taking on the Secretary’s duties as well. John had clocked up a total of eleven years on the Committee in various roles and can now put his feet up in the back benches. On behalf of the club Tony presented Bridget with an engraved Trinket box and John with an engraved Paperweight as a token of appreciation for their hard work. The new season’s events are just around the corner and the calendar looks pretty full. Here are just a couple of the club events to whet your appetite. ‘National Drive it Day’ April 21st Adrian and Val have put together a run and treasure hunt which will be rounded off with a cream tea. ‘Clubs Camping Weekend’ May 17th to 19th the Committee will be arranging a fun packed weekend, more details to follow. Best Wishes to all Alison **************************************************************************************** New Club Committee 2013 ** Club Chairman - Tony MacManus email:- chairmantvmgoc@gmail.com ** Area & Club Secretary - Alison Colville email:- clubsecretarytvmgoc@gmail.com ** Vice Chairman - Clive Wilson email:- vicetchairtvmgoc@gmail.com ** Treasurer - Ade Nursey email:- treasurertvmgoc@gmail.com ** Events Secretary - Alan Colville email:- eventsecretarytvmgoc@gmail.com ** Members Rep - Hugh Baker email:- membersreptvmgoc@gmail.com ** Media Editor - Keith Medland email:- mediaeditortvmgoc@gmail.com ************************************************************************************* Chairman/Secretary’s Report February 2013 Hi Everyone Sadly, for me, this is the last report as your Chairman/Secretary. At a recent meeting of the Committee I confirmed that I would stand down at the AGM, in the confidence that there is newer and younger blood waiting in the wings. After 11 continuous years on the committee it will seem a bit strange at first but I am looking forward to returning to the ‘back benches’ and continuing my full support of club activities from there. This is the best opportunity for me, in print at least, to thank all members for their support and guidance over the years, always laced with good humour. Apart from a little altercation at Polperro car park early last year, membership of this club has been a real pleasure for me. Long may it continue. Well, that’s enough of self- indulgence, now to more pertinent matters. Everyone who made the effort to meet up at Route 38 for coffee on Sunday 20 January was rewarded by an excellent run to the Cheesewring Hotel afterwards, the route crafted by Martyn and Janet Blackwell. I had to make a detour via Trago Mills (a fate worse than death for us husbands!) in order to buy some carpets to replace those we lost in our recent flooding. There is a full report from Clive, including a snow topped yomp across the moor, later in these pages. However, I would like to recall a very pleasant after- lunch duty when I presented Ade and Val with the ‘TVMGOC Enthusiast of the Year’ trophy. The decision to award it to them was a real ‘no brainer’ as both have thrown themselves into supporting the club from day 1, in particular, organizing the very successful Friday night supper runs which start again in the spring. Before I sign off, I would like to remind everyone that our Club’s Annual General Meeting takes place, at the usual venue, on Wednesday 6 March (see‘ Forthcoming Events’) Please make every effort to attend; your individual views and votes are very important to us all and sets the club on the right track for the next 12 months. John **************************************************************************************** Chairman/Secretary’s Report January 2013 Hi Everyone To say that our family Christmas was dramatically effected by a little local difficulty would be an understatement. Suffice it to say that our household is unlikely to revert to normal much before the end of March 2013. The Magnette enjoyed a paddle up to its brake drums in 9” of water but mercifully did not sustain any damage. Needless to say the car was moved to higher ground until the weather made up its mind what to do next! Those of you with a very strong constitution may wish to hear the whole grizzly story, complete with power point pictures, but I warn you now, it is not for the feint hearted! I’m typing this still wearing wellies, which should give you a clue! Now; moving on to Club matters. Those of us who attended the club Christmas Dinner were rewarded by an excellent evening all round. Sue Pym has written a very perceptive piece on the event and I do not wish to elaborate. Suffice it to say that, personally, the harpist really made the evening for me and the occasion bordered, as Sue says, on the “grand”. Everyone appeared in good humour as usual and for once, well behaved! Again, my sincere thanks to Tony MacManus for orchestrating the evening and also to Wendy and Tony Swinburne for wading through and distributing all the raffle prizes. By the time you read this we will be nine days into the New Year and well on track for our first club event, Sunday Lunch on 20 January. The venue, arranged by Janet and Martyn Blackwell, the Cheesewring at Minions is, I think, quite clever. The pub is the highest in Cornwall, so the risk of flooding is low. If you have yet to commit, please give it a thought and start our classic year with a huge turn-out. Finally, as you can imagine, putting this Newsletter together with so much turmoil in our house was next to impossible. Once again many thanks must go to Keith Medland for stepping in and putting this issue together. My lap-top survived the ingress but now works on induction using a bit of wet string! I wish you all that you would wish for yourselves and your family, during this next challenging year. John **************************************************************************************** | |
