THE APRIL NOGGIN and ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Held at The Red Lion Myddle, a week after our normal date because of Easter, the AGM was populated by 22 members. Five members had tendered apologies before hand.
The usual reports were read out and I was very happy to acknowledge the hard work that Barbara does in running the club.
All the other suspects were mentioned and the Newsletter came in for special mention.
John has worked hard on the Newsletter recently and it is now very good, so much so that John was unanimously voted to continue with the editorship by the members. That's despite his plea for someone else to take over! He was also voted, in his absence due to illness, as a full Committee Member as well.
We can all help John's task by making available to him stories, photos and snippets of information about ourselves and our cars.
Letters to the editor about club matters are always welcome.
The meeting was going along well with our target time of 14 minutes being well within reach when Ernie Page asked in any other business "Do we need to replace the Chairman every two years?"
This is something that John had brought up at Committee during his tenure in the job but nothing was ever done about it.
So the proposal was open to the floor and quite a lively discussion was held.
I have to make my own position clear on this point. It is something I agree with.
Should the Club ever get a Chairperson worthy of the title then it seems stupid to me that that person should vacate the job after an arbitrary period of time if they were willing to continue and WANTED BY THE MEMBERSHIP!!
The proposal by Alan Jarrett and seconded by Duncan Page was accepted by the members with only one member abstaining.
Hopefully this will bring about in the future a greater interest in the club management as members will think "I can do better than that" and offer themselves for the position of Committee Member and/or Chairman.
As the meeting had gone on for a considerable amount of time over the 14mins. record, it was decided that the Quiz from Alan & Wendy Jarret would not be held. This will now be later in the year after the summer Drive Arounds.
Notes & Comments
Nice to see David Cole up and at ?em at the committee meeting, but sorry so say that Barbara hasn?t been to well, and had to miss the committee meet, first time to my knowledge, get well soon Barbara.
And to my eternal surprise you missed the opportunity to get rid of me and retained me not only as news hound, but for the first time a full committee member ? amazing, some people have no taste!!! But all joking aside thanks for your confidence.
