The Maidstone Branch of the MG Owners Club was formed approximately 30 years ago and is very well established. Its membership has fluctuated quite a bit over the years but is now pretty steady with about 30 members including wives and partners who are encouraged to come to club meetings and events. Our membership has not been confined to Maidstone but has included regular members from Tunbridge Wells, Bromley, Ashford and Dover. We have had many different venues for club meetings in our time but have recently settled for the Roebuck Inn just off the A20 at Harrietsham on the basis of its convenient location and accomodation. For the past twelve years or so we have usually organised annual long weekend breaks with our MGs in France which have always been very well attended but more recently have been going to Warners weekend breaks in the UK.
We have also had and still have a good representation of MGs in our club including MGAs, MGB Roadsters, MGC's, MGBGTs,RV8s, V8s, MGTFs, plus 1275 and 1500 Midgets.
The emphasis in the last ten years or so has been to concentrate on the social side of things and leave big ends and camshaft profiles out of the main meeting agenda, unless of course, a member has a problem with his/her car when there is always plenty of expertise on hand to help.
The club has grown in the last year or so and we always look forward to seeing new members at our club nights. Our aim in the coming year is put more emphasis on club outings with our MGs. | |
