DRIVE IT DAY DRIVE IT DAY 2010 Drive It Day is always held on the nearest Sunday to 23 April. This date was chosen in 2005 to commemorate the 64 cars that set off from London on 23 April 1900 on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial – an incredible undertaking and one which we believe deserves an annual celebration. This year the Run will be held on Sunday 25th April. As usual we will meet at the Beach Ballroom at 9am and we will be joined by the Kildrummy Rally Club who have organised a run to the Millers at Midmar. Owners are welcome to join either Run whether they are members or not. Final destination is Delgatie Castle near Turriff. This is your run so you don’t have to do any of the organised routes or activities if you don’t want to. The GVRS Run will set off about 9:30 along the Esplanade to the Bridge of Don. Turn right onto the Ellon road and continue on the dual carriageway to the Murcar (B&Q) Roundabout. There, turn left onto the B999 for Tarves. On the bend just before Tarves turn right onto the Haddo House road. At the jubction turn right then first left. At the crossroads go straight across the B9005 to the Tanglandford bridge. After 2½ miles turn right at the crossroads and carry on to Auchnagatt, turning right, over the bridge, then left passing the Baron’s Hotel. Continue on the B9030 to Stuartfield and Old Deer, going straight ahead at the Square, then right onto the B950 Mintlaw road. At the roundabout turn left. The Happy Plant Garden Centre is on your right. http://www.happyplant.co.uk/index.php Welcome to the Happy Plant – We began life in 1984 and now we are the largest Gifts and Garden Centre in the North East of Scotland and a 4-Star Scottish Tourist Board Garden Centre. After coffee & cakes & a tour of the Centre, we leave, turning left, then right at the roundabout heading back on the B950. After 4 miles turn left onto the B9106 to Maud, then onto the B9029 for New Deer. At the crossroads turn right on the B9170 heading for Cumminestown. Stay on the B9170 and head for Turriff. After about two miles , there is a fork in the road. Take the minor road to the right for about four miles. Delgatie Castle entrance is on the left. I have arranged soup & sandwich lunches at £8 a head. http://www.delgatiecastle.com/ After you have toured the Castle and lunched you can walk around the Gardens and grounds. When you have had enough culture & quisine you are at liberty to make your own way home.
